Disaster Recovery Challenges part [2]

While modern cloud solutions dominate the DR landscape, many on-premise setups still rely on traditional, "old-style" methods—and face familiar challenges.

The backbone usually involves tape backups and off-site vaulting. Data is regularly stored on physical tapes, which are then couriered to a secure, climate-controlled vault, creating an 'air-gapped" copy protected from site-specific disasters or cyberattacks.

The challenge? These methods inherently extend the Recovery Time Objective (RTO). Recovery involves a manual, multi-step process: requesting the tape from the vault, waiting for physical delivery, and manually restoring the data and systems. This heavy reliance on manual procedures increases the risk of human error. It can cause hours, days, or even [as we witnessed in Georgia] weeks of downtime, and for businesses that cannot afford disruption, the implications are disastrous.

Modern methods aim to eliminate these risks by providing the organization with an “insurance' through automation and cloud-based DR technologies.
