The benefits of storing your data in a Tier 3 data center instead of an on-premises server room

Moving your data from your on-premises server room to a Tier 3 data center, such as Purple Cloud’s data center in Tbilisi, provides significant benefits, particularly in terms of reliability, security, and operational efficiency.

A Tier 3 data center offers N+1 redundancy for power and cooling, ensuring there's always at least one backup component for each critical system. This is very different from most on-premises server rooms, which often lack such comprehensive redundancy and are vulnerable to single points of failure like power outages or cooling system failures. This redundancy results in an expected uptime of 99.982%, or less than 1.6 hours of downtime each year, compared to much higher potential downtime for a typical server room.

Furthermore, Tier 3 facilities are concurrently maintainable. This means maintenance or Equipment replacement can happen without any disruption to your live services, a nearly impossible feat for an on-premises setup that usually requires scheduled downtime.

Beyond uptime, these specialized data centers provide better physical security, with multiple layers of access control, surveillance, and on-site staff, far surpassing what most businesses can afford for their internal server rooms. They also include advanced environmental controls, maintaining optimal temperature and humidity, which prolongs the life of your hardware and prevents costly equipment failures.

While an on-premises server room offers complete control, it also carries the full burden of responsibility, including significant capital expenditure, ongoing maintenance, and the need for specialized IT staff. A Tier 3 data center offloads these complexities, allowing your business to focus on its core operations while benefiting from a highly resilient and secure infrastructure.
